“It’s not just about writing decent English, it’s about making your CV attractive, preparing a LinkedIn profile, looking professional, preparing for job interviews and observing the body language. In short, students learn all those soft skills that they don’t learn in regular academic courses.

Randa Chidiac, executive director of the grants and projects unit at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, told Al-Fanar that Work Ready Now was proposed as three-credit full elective course since the 2020-2021 school year.

She said: “It’s not just about writing decent English, it’s about making your CV attractive, preparing a LinkedIn profile, looking professional, preparing for job interviews and observe body language. In short, students learn all those soft skills that they don’t learn in regular academic courses.

The course also has a component on leadership, building teamwork skills and problem solving, she added.

Chidiac, who was trained to lead the course, said it was about preparing students’ minds for work.

“A new culture”

At Antonine University, Work Ready Now is offered in five faculties and students can enroll from the first year. It is implemented by the university’s career center.

“The modules are already offered free of charge by the career center through seminars and workshops,” said center director Fouad Abdallah. “Work Ready Now is offered as a regular elective course with full credits.

He added: “The course is fundamental because the students need all these soft skills, which are usually offered by the career center of the university. For example, there is a big difference between writing a CV, which can take half an hour, and writing a CV, which takes time.
