September 1, 2021 – Horizons Savannah has received a $ 10,000 grant from the Truist Foundation to help continue the remarkable work Horizons is doing at the Savannah Country Day School.

“Funding from the Truist Foundation has enabled us to deliver much-needed in-person programs to students this summer,” said Christy Edwards, Executive Director of Horizons Savannah. “With their support, we were able to staff each of our sites with a full-time nurse to help with COVID precautions which created a safe environment for our students and faculty to focus on teaching, l learning and reconnecting with their peers after so much. virtual learning. ”

Horizons Savannah, a subsidiary of Horizons National, offers a six-week summer enrichment program and additional educational support throughout the year to underprivileged families in the Savannah area. Horizons students participate in activities that stimulate literacy skills and encourage a love of reading. Through hands-on, project-based STEAM programming, students develop problem-solving skills and critical thinking.

In addition, more than one in five fatal drowning victims are under the age of 14. In majority minority communities, the youth drowning rate is often 2-3 times the national average. Horizons offers every student swimming lessons and, more importantly, the opportunity to build self-confidence through swimming.

“At Truist, we firmly believe that all people and communities should have an equal opportunity to thrive,” said Jenna Kelly, Regional President of Truist in Georgia, on behalf of the Truist Foundation. “Through our partnership with innovative organizations such as Horizons Savannah, the communities we serve have a chance to have a better quality of life. We are proud to support their mission and help increase their impact.
