Michael Whatley’s column published on July 11 (New Democrats’ Philosophy: If you can’t win, change the rules) is part of the Republican hierarchy of the NC and spreads untruths like so many others in his party. The twice-indicted ex-man has spread so many lies and continues the big lie that he won the 2020 election.
No, it’s not the Democrats trying to change the rules. These are Republican-led legislatures in too many states based on the big lie that there was fraud in the 2020 election and the other won. A suspicion of fraud was found among Republicans, but the election was mostly conducted without fraud.
Based on these lies, Republicans are trying to change the rules to make voting more difficult for people, and this will impact those who would not vote their way in many cases. The right to vote, one person, one vote, is sacred if the American democratic republic is to survive.
I’m sick of hearing falsehoods where they deny that the failed January 6 coup attempt was the violent attack we have all witnessed. And the crass misinformation and lies that continually spread through their ranks about COVID vaccinations put the lives of so many at risk for the most deadly and virulent COVID strains, as many in their ranks refuse to receive the protective vaccinations.
“If you can’t win, change the rules” applies to Republicans’ national antics, so stop spreading the many lies. Our democracy is at stake.
