Launch of the Gamble Responsibility America application in the United States

New Mobile App Designed To Be An Educational Resource On Safe Gambling Has Been Launched In The United States

The Gamble Responsably America app is touted as the premier resource in the United States for anyone seeking information about responsible gambling or insight into their own behavior, according to the Entain Foundation US, which launched the app on Tuesday.

Users can take a self-assessment quiz to assess their gambling habits or the potential risk of developing unhealthy behaviors, speak with a helpline specialist via a 24/7 live chat feature / 7, track their play choices with a virtual journal and find out what limiting tools are available to help control their activities.

In addition, the app functions as “an intermediary between users and services that provide the help the customer may need,” said Martin Lycka, administrator of the Entain Foundation in the United States and senior vice president of Entain for US Regulatory Affairs and Responsible Gaming.

The Entain Foundation produced the application in partnership with Epic Risk Management, based in the UK, and RG24Seven, based in Las Vegas. The foundation is funded by the British betting company Entain.

Entain Holdings and MGM Resorts International jointly own BetMGM, an online sports betting and gaming platform in the United States

BetMGM will provide information and a link to download the standalone Gamble Responsably America app on its responsible gaming resources page, a spokesperson said on Friday.

The app is available for free on the App Store and the Google Play Store. It is not marked and does not require any registration. It’s by design.

“We are convinced that if (she had been) tagged, the app would in fact have frustrated its purpose,” Lycka said. Its sole purpose is to educate and direct people to the help they may need.

The launch of the app immediately caught the attention of responsible gaming expert Alan Feldman. He downloaded the app the moment he learned about it, he said on Friday.

“Good for them,” said Feldman, Distinguished Fellow of Responsible Gambling at the UNLV International Gaming Institute. “It’s a good start, and we need to see a lot more of this kind of activity in the sports betting world in general or in the online betting world in general.”

The tools and information available in the application exist elsewhere in separate rooms. What sets the app apart is its consolidation of “everything that is known to be important” into one easily accessible place, he said.

“And this is a very impressive and meaningful moment,” Feldman said.

Feldman said he hoped to see if user input could potentially provide a useful data sample for gambling habits and treatment effectiveness research.

The app provides links and phone numbers to support groups, treatment options, and counselors certified by the National Center for Problem Gaming. Lycka said the app itself is not a substitute for proper therapy or treatment, although it does help connect people with such help.

The Entain Foundation’s view is that promoting responsible gambling habits is good for players to protect themselves from the social or health consequences of problem sports and online betting, Lycka said.

It’s also good for business, he says. The sports betting and online gaming industries need to protect their customers. Otherwise, their long-term sustainability is threatened.

“The earlier, I believe, we step in to protect customers by providing them with all the information they need, so they can make informed decisions about their game, the better,” Lycka said.
