The Eagles are building their roster from the inside out and that’s probably the biggest reason for the continued success despite a lack of talent in key skill positions.

Philadelphia prides itself on stockpiling offensive and defensive line depth and if two draft-eligible prospects have similar ratings, the Trenches will usually get the pick.

That’s why it shouldn’t have come as a shock when the Eagles went with Nebraska center Cam Jurgens to No. 51 overall, despite Nakobe Dean and other talented defenders still on the board. On Friday night after Day, two concluded, general manager Howie Roseman provided insight into his second-round thought process.

Andy Weidl, vice president of player personnel for the Eagles, told the media that Jurgens does everything that Jeff Stoutland and the team managers prefer to do in a certain pattern.

Howie Roseman said the Eagles were actually considering signing Dean at No. 51, but opted for Jurgens based on the philosophy of building from the inside out.

While Dean was still on set a round later, Philadelphia’s plan fell into place.
